HQ is a sample of their deck, but it's not a random sample. If they've drawn a lot of cards, installed a lot of ice, and played a lot of operations, then they probably drew some agendas too. If they haven't played them, then there's a reasonable chance that they're just pooling in HQ.

Generally speaking, if you haven't seen an agenda installed in a while, and you don't have a hard R&D lock, then there's a good chance that HQ has a higher agenda density than R&D.

Thanks everyone! You all have given me a lot to think about.

I'm primarily going for net kills, but I originally wanted to give myself the option of going for agenda victories as well, just in case. Seeing that Zeromus deck and reading through this conversation has helped me realize that I should focus a bit more on my primary goal, rather than trying to do two different things poorly. I'll have to start tweaking things now! Thanks again!

The chances of having an Astroscript in your opening hand or drawing one within the first 5-8 turns (depending on how many cards you draw with NEH's ability) is simply higher with TWiY.

One way to frame this debate is by estimating how big of an extra draw head start a 49 card Near Earth Hub deck would need at the start of the game to equal a 44 card TWiY's chances at drawing the first Astroscript.

Some basic late night mathalytics:

0. There's 3 Astroscripts in both decks, because nobody's debating they are the top NBN Agenda.
1. Mulligan can be safely discarded, since it's the same extra five for both sides.
2. It's definitely less than 5, because at that point you've got the same size deck.
3. The first card TWiY draws has a slightly below 7 (3/44) percent chance of being an astroscript. The first six card draws are somewhere less than 43 percent, in the formula P = (3/44)+(3/42)+(3/41)+(3/40) + (3/39) + (3/38).
4. The first card NEH draws has a slightly better than 6 percent chance, (3/49). The first six cards put it at 38 percent.
5. The seventh card NEH draws puts it at 45.

So a single extra card draw negates the opening hand odds, when treated as costless. I'll leave it to someone else to estimate how often you need to trigger NEH's ability to compensate for deck thinning, but I suspect if your game plan involves making an extra server every few turns, TWiY's deck thinning advantage over NEH is negligible.

And sure, it's true that you're writing off that rare Biotic Labor, Install, Shipment from San-San, Advance & Score Astro first turn. Oh well.

I will say that the Portland, Oregon meta has had a big influx of new players and some immigrants from other metas mixed in. I have been teaching them using just core decks so they learn good fundamentals. They have been coming along nicely.

Does the "Mother Goddess gains the subtypes of all other rezzed ice" effect apply whilst it is not in play?

E.g. when Galahad allows you to reveal two Grail ice from HQ could you reveal Mother Goddess?

Sadly no. So currently it only interacts with NEXT ICE and Stronger Together.

^This. The only 'active' elements of a card not currently installed (or installed but unrezzed, in the case of Corp) are type and subtype. So MG always has Ice and Mythic (even while uninstalled) for cards where this is relevant, such as Levy University, but won't gain any additional subtypes until installed and rezzed.

With 5 less cards in your deck, the mulligan has to be taken into account if you are aiming to start with a specific card in your hand. Not sure on the math but it should at least be a few percent better.

Yeah, but you don't play TWIY because it's consistent, but because it's fast.;)

Terrible playmat art, who decides what goes on those things?

Weyland alt. kind of bland imo, EtF wasn't cool either, neither was NBN, Jinteki totally won that on the corp side. On the runner side Kate is best imo and the resst kind....ugly :P

Plascrete, nice, I'll have to get a playset though, so I don't need to flip all them plascretes ariund between all my decks, yay, won't need to by WLA just to get 3 more plascretes, and now pretty ones at that :D

THe deckbox, need one but can't tell from the pic if it is sweet or bland.

My opinions :)

This is true in theory, but since Jackson Howard came out, it's a standard part of the early / middle game to overdraw with him and discard excess agenda, which keeps agenda density in HQ in check. So accesses pre-Jackson (or after a long period of no_jackson) should be worth more.

I love the playmat art, but it doesn't do very well from up close (had stared at it big for a while cos I quite liked it).

The Weyland art is so meh.

The plascrete could be a biiiit less dark, and it looks a tad wonky, but it seems cool :)

I keep wondering if there might a different approach to using AI breakers, one that really plays off their strength.

However, I am starting to see the possibility of AI's being a fourth breaker in your suite, and included to increase consistency. Instead of having to get out A, B, and C to deal with all types of ICE, some combination of one or two from A, B, and C, plus D (your AI) will get the job done effectively.

I think this might be what you are asking about.

I have been running a Reina deck (I've been calling it my Rienman deck. I know, I know, not creative at all and a bit cheesy.)using AI as a forth breaker and fifth breaker the past couple of months.

The idea is to install Atmans at strength 4 or greater depending on the ice you see, and have the standard Anarch breaker suite to handle anything strength 3 (or 4 depending on ice carver showing up early) and below. This will allow for efficient breaking of ice. Datasucker support and ice carver is there for the really big ice.

I have had many games, where installing the Atman was not necessary, as the datasucker/Anarch breakers handled the ice with little difficulty.

I have had games where drawing of the Anarch breakers became a problem, and I was glad for a strength 0 Atman in play.

I have had games against glacial decks where the corp expected to run away with the game due to taxing expensive ice being rezzed, and a lack of datasucker counters putting them out of Anarch breaker reach. I then installed the Atmans, much to his chagrin.

Economy was powered by Daily Cast, Armitage, Kati Jones & Lucky Find.

Influence was spent on 2 Atmans, 3 Lucky Finds and 3 Quality Time.

All in all, it was fun to run, quite successful, but not consistent enough for top tier play, due to the lack of tutoring. I will be trying the same idea out with Kate, but suspect that Atmans alone will be enough.

Cheers.

Thanks for the answers. I can rest easy now and understand why the wording on the card is the way it is.

i keep going back and forth on toolbox vs dino. i'll have to do some testing with dino, i really like the idea.

and i love the datasucker idea. i'm just a little concerned about pumping them up if i they ice up a lot and wipe viruses.

i've kinda put this deck aside for the past few sessions, as it just wasn't performing like i'd hoped. been having better luck with a whizard swiss army type deck.
