what real reason is there for a runner to run and play the HQ lottery?
Because if you leave it undefended, I will abuse it. At least for a turn.
I had a game this week, Corp dropped one ice on R&D first turn. I ran HQ all four clicks. Pulled 2 agendas for 4 points.
And if I don't pull agendas? It didn't cost me anything (besides a few clicks) to find out what you have in HQ. That information is an important head's up regarding the battle ahead. You can call it a 'lottery' if you want to, but even at 1 in 5 I have decent odds of snatching that agenda if I take 4 shots on goal, and I will always gain something by it.
Abuse openings when they exist - it's almost always worth it.
